The UK and Europe’s best-selling gay magazine and the world’s biggest LGBTQ media brand is hiring a Deputy Content Editor.
Attitude is the world’s biggest LGBTQ+ media brand (across print, digital, online, social, video, and live events) and the best-selling gay magazine in the UK and Europe.
We are recruiting a full-time Deputy Content Editor to support the Editor-in-Chief, Content Editor, and the wider team in the day-to-day running of Attitude magazine, its website, and our social and video channels, and help develop a strategy for growth.
Here’s the low-down:
Job Title: Deputy Content Editor
Level: Intermediate, mid-level, first-level management
Salary: DoE, includes five weeks’ paid holiday and pension contributions
Experience preferred: 3-5 years experience in print and online consumer, lifestyle and/or news journalism
Location: We are based mid-way between London and Brighton, 40 minutes from London Victoria by train.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Writing/editing news and other content for the website at least two days a week, including headline writing, picture sourcing, SEO optimisation, and, where needed, social sharing
- Delegating to, liaising with, and building up a team of writers, freelancers, and other contributors across Attitude channels
- Standing in for the Content Editor in their absence
- Responsibility for writing and/or producing certain sections/regular features in the magazine
- Liaising with the team to ensure deadlines are met on the magazine and strike rates/targets are met on the website
- Managing an editorial calendar
- Analysing readership data to develop content strategies to increase social media engagement and following, deliver traffic to the website and sales of the magazine
- Helping to organise and deliver photoshoots
- Proofing magazine copy
- Some commercial copywriting and liaising with clients expected
- Assist with planning/delivering Attitude’s online and physical events
Requirements:
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- An impressive list of contacts
- Good communication, interpersonal, and organisation skills
- A firm grasp of what matters to gay men and the LGBTQ+ community
- A love and passion for LGBTQ+-focused media
- Extremely proficient with WordPress, Google Analytics, various social media platforms, and other publishing software
Skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, business, or related field preferred
- NCTJ accreditation preferred
