Five travel insurance tips you NEED to know
Thinking of booking a holiday? Thought about the travel insurance yet? Here are some tips to ensure you have the right cover for you…
1) Adventure sport enthusiasts
If you’re into your scuba diving, paragliding, snowboarding, skiing and even sky diving – be aware most standard travel insurance policies won’t cover you. Add winter sports as an extra to your cover and you’ll be sorted for most snow-based activities, but even an adventure sport add-on won’t cover you for skydiving. Be sure you check before you buy!
2) Victims of theft
If you have had your belongings nicked, you will have to report it to the police as soon as possible – mostly within a 24 to 48 hour period window. The insurance cover will need a police report number, and if you don’t have one – or report it later, you may not be covered.
3) Cancelled flights
It’s worth getting your travel insurance before you buy your ticket, because then you’ll be covered if something unfortunate pops up and you have to cancel your trip. Keep your policy terms with you on holiday too, in case you need to make a claim.
4) Missed the plane
Er, sorry – you’re probably not covered. If you are covered (well done on finding and bagging that policy), you’ll probably have to prove you left your home in time to make the flight. So keep some evidence of your delay handy if you think you’re running late.
5) Insure your electrical items
If you’re carrying a laptop, smart phone and lots of pricy camera equipment, it’s worth taking out specialist electrical insurance. Protect Your Bubble are great at covering a selected number of specific items for as little as £5.99 per month. It’s worth it.
