Review | The Carpe Diem Santorini hotel is perfect for honeymooners or relaxing retreats
The 'clean, minimal' hotel is a sublime boutique hotel in Santorini, Greece.
Words: Joseph Kocharian
It’s often said of all the islands in Greece, Santorini is the most special.
If you’re going for a trip to somewhere sublime, you need a hotel to match, which is where the Carpe Diem Santorini comes in to its own.
A quick google search (or the fact that Givenchy Beauty hired out the place in its entirity) will tell you that it’s in the upper echelons of hotels on the island.
Designed by the late Giorgos Kopatsaris, who designed most of the hotels on the island, and run by his family to this day, it’s clear that this hotel was the jewel in his hotel crown.
It’s clean, minimal and modern architecture still manages to feel quintessentially Greek. It’s quite simply a beautiful hotel to stay in.
It’s no surprise that the hotel has also just been awarded World’s Best Relaxation Retreat to go with their previous award as World’s Best Honeymoon Hideaway at the World Boutique Hotel Awards 2018.
The premise of the five-star boutique hotel is simple, but exquisitely executed.
It’s all about serenity, privacy and comfort. It’s adults only, so perfect for honeymooning or a retreat.
Carpe Diem have just 10 luxury suites (each equipped with their own private pools with incredible 270 degree wide views to go with your amazing sunsets).
A popular place for honeymooners, it’s clear to see that with huge suites (and individual sunbathing balconies and pool) you really don’t have to leave the comfort of your suite, especially with a head butler available 24/7.
If you do want to venture out, you can go to the hotel’s restaurant that serves exquisite food, or their beautiful pool is a perfect place to swim and take in the view.
They’re also a few minutes walk from Pyrgos Village full of cobbled streets, picturesque buildings, cafes, restaurants and incredible hill top views of the island.
It’s also a short trip to the beautiful black sand beaches that the island is famous for. Back at the hotel their Althea Boutique Spa is designed for two, with ying and yang jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
Carpe Diem means ‘seize the day,’ but this hotel is so relaxing, it is easy to do the opposite and do absolutely nothing and just enjoy the surroundings. It’s definitely a bit of boutique hotel bliss on the wonderful island of Santorini.
We’ve also added a few behind the scenes pictures of Deano Perona at the resort, just so you can inspect the property properly…
