The BBC’s Owain Wyn Evans supported after homophobic letter
Rylan and Divina De Campo are among those supporting the Welsh presenter.
BBC Breakfast presenter Owain Wyn Evans has been inundated with support after sharing a disgusting note from a homophobic viewer.
The 38-year-old Welsh presenter shared an image of the letter from an anonymous viewer that used homophobic slurs and told him to “stay in bloody Wales”.
Evans shared that the vast majority of letters her receives “from people are so, so lovely” but that he still finds it “bizarre that people take time to scrawl stuff like this onto a notepad and send it to me.”
“Hope this camp pic doesn’t put you off any meals dahlings! (Warning, letter is hateful in nature),” Evans added, his message paired with an image of the letter and him perched proudly on his drum kit.
The letter read: “You raving bloody p**f, do you have to be so camp on TV. It puts me off my meal! Stay in bloody Wales [where] you belong.”
Many viewers and colleagues of Evans offered him support and condemned the hateful message.
“Oh mate, that is really awful. I’m so sorry to see you receive this kind of hate. You’re such a lovely man with huge positive energy *also it’s wHere. Take care x,” broadcaster James Hoggarth replied.
Presenter Rylan jokingly replied: “I was having a bad morning.”
Evans responded: “All is forgiven babes I know what you’re like before your first coffee of the day xoxox”
Drag queen, singer, and actor Divina De Campo also shared love for Evans: “Love you and so does my mum which is a ringing endorsement.”
In October, Owain Wyn Evans was announced to be replacing Vanessa Feltz as the host of the Early Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.
The drumming weatherman will take over in January 2023 and broadcast from Cardiff. He has previously worked at the Welsh-language station, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC North-west.
