A lot more straight guys are into anal penetration than you might think

Almost a quarter of men, both straight and gay have used sex toys including dildos and butt plugs while masturbating, a new survey has found.

Presenting her findings at a sexual science conference in Alburquerque, New Mexico last November, psychologist Allison Kirschbaum asked hundreds of men about their habits of self-pleasure, Gay Star News reports.

It was found that 24% of all men, both gay and straight had “inserted an object” into their anus, while 35.3% had engaged in nipple play and 32.2% had used a vibrator.

Just over two thirds (66.4%) had rubbed their genitals on a surface while almost half of respondents (47.7%) had used a shower jet.

Statistically, if 6-10% of men identify as gay or bisexual, the findings would point to at least 14-18% of heterosexual men agreeing they enjoyed anal penetration during masturbation.

Certified sexological bodyworker Kian De La Cour told Gay Star News he was unsurprised by the results of the study.

“It’s very common. A lot of men have heard about it, so it’s safer to engage in self anal-play than to engage in it with another person,” he said.

“If I’m giving it to myself, it doesn’t have the cultural stigma attached to that area.”

De La Cour added that many men have a fluid sexuality which was confirmed by sexuality researcher in the 1950s. And while many heterosexual men have had some form of same-sex encounter, then will tend to lie about it.

“People like to believe they have a unified sexuality but, in reality, we’re complex and our sexuality is on many levels. We shouldn’t be afraid to enjoy what we enjoy,” he said.

“If we can talk about sexuality and not attach stigma to certain areas, it would be better. This study will hopefully encourage other people to try it and access more pleasure through exploring themselves.”
