A trans woman’s fatal stabbing was caught on video
By Micah Sulit
Kenton “KC” Haggard, 66, was stabbed to death in Fresno, California on Thursday morning, bringing the total number of trans people killed in the US this year to 11.
It was also the second trans murder this week; trans woman India Clarke’s body was found in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday.
Local news channel KMPH obtained surveillance footage from a nearby tattoo shop. The video showed Haggard being called over to an SUV that had pulled up. She spoke with someone in the passenger seat, then leaned towards the window and was then stabbed in the neck.
The SUV took off; Haggard tried to flag down a passing car but it didn’t stop. Haggard stumbled to the ground, and although a few people stopped in their tracks when they see her, no one offered any assistance.
“It was premeditated, it was thought out,” transgender activist Karen Adell Scot told KMPH. “They had the knife ready. They baited the person to the vehicle and they followed through with tremendous precision on the strike.”
Scot added, “We don’t want to be murdered in the dark while we are alone with no one helping us. It has to change.”
