A Buckinghamshire nightclub is developing the ‘first’ piece of public art to celebrate Alan Turing as a gay man.

Pink Punters in Fenny Stratford have spent thousands of pounds on the “street tribute”, BBC News reports.

A spokesperson for the venue said that two artists are working on a “form of colourful relief work” to “capture the life and fate of a man persecuted for his homosexuality”.

Although they are keeping details of the art under wraps for now, it is likely to focus on Turing’s face and the gay pride rainbow.

Turing – a mathematician and codebreaker who played an instrumental part in defeating the Nazis – was prosecuted for gross indecency in 1952, after it was discovered that he was in a homosexual relationship.

He was sentenced to chemical castration and later committed suicide in 1954.

Turing was granted a posthumous pardon by the Queen on December 23 under the Royal Prerogative of Mercy.
