American high school students organise ‘Anti-Gay Day’

By Ryan Love

Students at an American high school have staged an Anti-Gay day.

It was allegedly organised as a response to the ‘Day of Silence’ which highlights the bullying of LGBT students in schools around the country.

The students from McGuffey High School behind the idea contacted fellow classmates telling them that they should wear a flannel shirt if they supported the movement, and also “Anti-Gay” on their hands.

Fellow student Zoe Johnson spoke out, telling WPXI-TV: “Yesterday, there was pushing, posters hung on homosexual students’ lockers. Teachers were having to run out and take them down.”

The Channel 11 news team reported that they spoke to several students who were too afraid to go to school as a result of the action.

There were also claims that a “lynch list” is circulating among students, with a growing list of names to target on it.

Dr. Erica Kolat, the superintendent of McGuffey School District, said that the reports were being investigated, adding: “We resolve to ensure that all children can grow and learn in a safe, supportive environment free from discrimination.”

However, the ‘Anti-Gay Day’ appears to be just the first of a number of events, with further planned for next week.
