Andy Cohen reveals skin cancer scare
Comedian Andy Cohen appeared on Kelly Ripa’s Live With Kelly on Friday morning (November 25) and made a shocking revelation about his health.
The 48-year-old revealed that he was diagnosed with skin cancer after Ripa, who noticed an abnormal mark on his lip, urged him to visit a doctor, according to Gay Star News.
“I have to shout you out for something that you don’t know I’m going to shout you out for,” Cohen told Ripa, explaining that he he first noticed the “black dot” in April.
Cohen didn’t get it checked out immediately, he told the audience that Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos urged him to visit a dermatologist.
“Finally, I did, and it was melanoma and they removed it and the whole thing, and I just want to thank you because you were so dogmatic. And that’s all fine,” he told Ripa.
The Watch What Happens: Live host recently released his book Superficial: More Adventures From The Andy Cohen Diaries and states that the diagnosis changed his attitude towards sunbathing.
“I am tanorexic. I love the sun, I really do, but be careful,” he warned.
“And I, of course, never thought that that kind of thing would happen to me and it will change my relationship to the sun.”
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. It’s less common but more dangerous because it more likely to spread to other parts of the body if not caught early.
