Anton Hysen has signed with US soccer team Myrtle Beach Mutiny.
The English-born Swedish footballer, who came out as gay in March 2011, will play for the South Carolina-based side during the 2014 season, which begins in late summer. Myrtle Beach play in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in the fourth division.
“I am excited to be joining the Mutiny this season,” Hysen said in a press release. “This is a great opportunity for me on a personal and professional level. I hope I can help take the team to the top of the NPSL.”
The team’s head coach Jack Vandum added: “I am absolutely delighted to have Anton joining us this summer. Although he is still relatively young in age he will bring great experience to the team having played his soccer at a good professional level in Sweden.”
Hysen, 23, has previously played for the Swedish teams Utsiktens BK and Torslanda IK. He appeared on Attitude‘s Active cover in summer 2011 (issue 205).
