Around 400 people to be ‘treated’ for homosexuality at a camp in Ghana
Reports suggest that all attendees signed up voluntarily.
Around 400 people are set to be “treated” for homosexuality at an undisclosed location in Ghana.
The attendees will be “treated” at the camp during an event titled ‘Exploring the myths surrounding LGBT rights’ in which they will receive “counselling”.
The event is being run by the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values (NCPHSRFV) who has claimed that all attendees signed up voluntarily.
Moses Foh-Amoaning, the Chief Executive Officer of NCPHSRFV, claims the aim of the camp is to “reform” attendees. He said: “400 men and women voluntarily surrendered themselves and registered with the coalition to undergo counselling after a sexual evangelism programme recently.”
The Daily Graphic, which is state-owned, reported that For-Amoaning was also planning on setting up a Holistic Sexual Therapy Unit which will “deal with the victims of homosexuality”. The unit, according to For-Amoaning, will comprise of psychiatrists, psychologists, medical doctors, religious leaders and experts in traditional medicine.
In addition, For-Amoaning is working on a paper titled “Who’s on the Lord’s Side” which will be introduced into Parliament and make “gay cure” therapy compulsory by law. He said: “We will make our punishment corrective instead of punitive.”
Homosexuality is illegal in Ghana and can be punished for up to three years in jail.
