Barclays CEO on London Pride: ‘There is a great spirit to it’
By Josh Haggis
Barclays CEO Anthony Jenkins has discussed the bank’s decision to sponsor London Pride this year, saying that it has helped LGBT employees to feel “more comfortable” at work.
As headline sponsor of Pride in London, Barclays will play a central role in the festivities for the third year running, and has tripled its investment in this year’s event.
“We have definitely had people who have come out in Barclays, who have felt more comfortable bringing their whole self to work because of the commitment we have shown externally,” said Jenkins.
Of the company’s decision to sponsor the event, he added: “There is a great spirit to it.”
In 2012, Barclays became the first UK bank to feature a same-sex couple in one of its adverts when it included a gay customer couple in a TV campaign. The company also ran the British finance industry’s first transgender-awareness event at its Canary Wharf base in 2013.
The week-long Pride in London festival kicks off this Sunday (June 22) with a ‘Freedom to…’ theme. The parade will depart from Baker Street at 1pm on Saturday June 28 – the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
It’s also been announced that legendary pop-icon and attitude.co.uk agony aunt Sinitta will debut her new single at the event – read the full story here.
