Ben Whishaw: ‘It’s hard to come out with dignity’
By Josh Haggis
Ben Whishaw has admitted that he found it difficult to come out “with dignity”.
The 33-year-old actor confirmed last summer that he had entered into a civil partnership with his long-term partner, Australian composer Mark Bradshaw.
In a new interview, the Skyfall star recalled his struggle to find the perfect way to speak out about his sexuality.
“It was never a secret, everyone around me in my life knew,” Whishaw told Marie Claire. “It’s just very hard to know how to say it, in a way, with some sort of dignity and to remain private.”
“It was something that happened at that time and now I’m very happy it’s just a fact and I can get on with life,” he added.
During another recent interview, Whishaw spoke about the coming out process “taking courage” – read his full thoughts on coming out here.
