Billy Porter hilariously points out that Jesus wore a dress amid criticism of men wearing dresses.
The Pose and Kinky Boots star – who won a Grammy and Tony for his role as Lola – wowed the world when he turned up at the Academy Awards this year wearing a tuxedo dress, wowing the likes of Glenn Close.
Then, at the Met Gala, he stunned everyone by rocking an Egyptian gown and was carried in by semi-clad men – beat that Lady Gaga.
And now, while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actor his back at criticism of men wearing dresses saying if he wants to wear a dress, he can.
He said: “We’ve moved beyond the idea that women wearing pants is a problem. Women wearing pants is powerful, it’s strong, everybody accepts it, and it’s associated with the patriarchy, it’s associated with being male.
“The minute a man puts on a dress it’s disgusting, so what are you saying? Men are strong, women are disgusting? I’m not doing that anymore.
“I’m done with that. I’m a man in a dress and if I feel like wearing a dress, I’m gonna wear one.”
He then added: “You know, people forget that Jesus wore a dress too. They called them robes, but he wore a dress. They wore dresses.”
