Boy George: ‘I slept with Prince’
By Ben Kelly
Boy George sent producers and audience members alike into a spin , during a recording of The Voice this week after claiming that he’s slept with Prince.
George – who’s has joined the line up of the BBC show this series along with Paloma Faith and returning coaches will.i.am and Ricky Wilson – is reported to have made the claim during a recording of the blind auditions stage of the competition while the coaches were attempting to woo a contestant with details of their past celebrity collaborations.
Boy George commented: “I have duetted with some of the greatest soul singers in history including Luther Vandross and Smokey Robinson,” to which Paloma Faith replied, “Well OK, if we’re throwing big soul names out there I’ve performed with Prince.”
The 54-year-old then allegedly announced: “Forget that, darling, I’ve slept with Prince.”
Reports say that while the audience laughed in shock, and will.i.am even high-fived George, producers paused recording to have a word with him. Afterwards, the Culture Club star told the live audience he hadn’t really slept with him, and he had only had the Purple one’s poster on his wall.
The incident was relayed to The Sun by a source present at the recording, who says it sent the audience “absolutely wild” at the claim.
Such tall talk seems appropriate for the coaching role on The Voice, considering Boy George has replaced legendary name-dropper Tom Jones for the upcoming series – a move which caused controversy after Jones claimed he wasn’t notified of the change until after it had been made public.
The fifth series of The Voice has been filming at MediaCityUK in Salford since September, and will begin screening in January on BBC One.
