British YouTube star Calum McSwiggan hospitalised following suspected homophobic attack
Popular British YouTube personality Calum McSwiggan has been hospitalised following a suspected homophobic attack in West Hollywood.
The 26-year-old Londoner, who hit the headlines earlier this year after he opened up about his time spent working in the porn industry, was attacked by three men during a night out with friends a gay club in Los Angeles, where he has been attending YouTube convention Vidcon.
Sharing a picture of himself lying in a hosptial bed this morning (June 28), Calum wrote: “Last night was the worst night of my life and I’m really struggling to find the words to talk about it. After one of the most wonderful weekends at VidCon we went out to a gay club to celebrate, and towards the end of the evening I was separated from my friends and beaten up by three guys.
“The authorities should have been there to help and protect me but instead they treated me like a second class citizen. With three broken teeth and six stitches in my forehead, I’ve never felt so terrified to be a gay man in the public eye.”
He added: “Right now I don’t feel that I’m in the right place to talk about this but I will be addressing this fully in the future.”
Friends and fellow YouTube stars have been sending Calum their love and support on social media.
Fellow YouTuber Anthony Deluca wrote on Facebook: “I’m sitting here in absolute disgust. With everything happening in Orlando and across the world, I can’t help but wonder what happened to people’s humanity.
“Violence against any person for being who they are is abhorrent. Spread positivity, be mindful, just simply listen.”
“My love goes out to you man, you matter, and this has no bearing on who you are. You are loved.”
