Burger King throws epic shade at Chick-fil-A as it announces Pride campaign

But oh, is this shade subtle.

The library is officially open for Burger King after the fast-food brand threw artful shade at US rival Chick-fil-A in a recent Pride tweet.

In the post, the burger giant announced a new fundraising initiative, with 40 cents of every sale of its Ch’King burger for the rest of June going to the Human Rights Campaign – the largest LGBTQ rights group in the US.

However, the chain could not resist a dig at the Christian-owned Chick-fil-A, which has what some might call a regrettable record on LGBTQ rights.

And we’re here for the reading.

“Even on Sundays…”

In a tweet last Friday, a Burger King rep said: “The #ChKing says LGBTQ+ rights! During #pride month (even on Sundays) your chicken sandwich craving can do good! we are making a donation* to @HRC for every Ch’King sold.”

They followed “even on Sundays” with the side-eye emoji – which we’re willing to bet is aimed at Chick-fil-A, which is closed on Sundays.

Nicely done!


In another tweet, the rep added: “*6/3-6/30 with every Ch’King sold, BK will contribute 40₵ to the Human Rights Campaign (Max. donation $250k).”

Dan Cathy, Chick-fil-A’s CEO, infamously said in 2012 that the company supports “the biblical definition of the family unit,” leading to widespread protests from LGBTQ activists.

The company also has a history of donating to anti-LGBTQ organisations.
