Caitlyn Jenner confronts her critics in New York
Caitlyn Jenner has been a target of a lot of criticism lately but on Thursday (May 5), she decided to confront and meet her biggest critics: a group of young LGBT students.
For the New York Times, Jenner visited Brooklyn’s Academy for Young Writers with Nicholas Kritstof, a columnist for the New York Times.
Some of the students at the school have said that Jenner is a “privileged white person” who doesn’t understand the struggles of transgender people.
When meeting the students, Jenner said, “I was a privileged white male. So I got very criticised in the trans-community with people asking, ‘what do I know?'”
“Well, actually, I know a lot. I will never, ever make excuses for working hard all my life and being successful and raising a wonderful family.”
She continues, “Trans people can transition in private – I have not had that luxury because of who I am and ‘that privilege’. I have been exposed to more than you can ever imagine. Being destroyed in the tabloids to paparazzi’s following me everywhere, lies about me.”
