‘Cher: The Musical’ is getting closer!
Last year Cher revealed that she spent three days with Rick Elice
, who’s currently working on a musical biopic, Cher: The Musical.
The singer announced the musical and said that it will focus on three stages of her life with a different actor playing each part: One actor will portray her before she met Sonny Bono; another after the couple separated in the early 1970s through to her Believe tour in 1999, and a third in the present day.
Now, the NY Post is reporting that on Rick Elice will present the script to the show’s producers today (April 21).
“They may pack me in a van and have me carted away when they see what I’ve done with her life,” he said.
“Or I’ll start doing what [Gypsy writer] Arthut Laurents always said about musicals, ‘They don’t get written. They get rewritten.'”
Elice says he’ll present Cher with the script on the singer’s 70th birthday next month (May 20).
He added that the problem with creating a production based on Cher’s life was that it was already “so wildly documented.”
“There is not much we don’t know about her,” he explained. “I was not a fanatical Cher fan, but when I started working on this show, I was surprised at how much I knew.”
He continued: “So far, I’ve been working on this by myself – well, me and iTunes.”
The musical was put aside when Elice had to take care of his husband, Roger Rees, who was fighting brain cancer and sadly passed away July last year. Three months later, Cher called and invited him to spend some time with her in California.
“I thought, if Roger were here, the first thing he’d say is, ‘Get on that plane and go to Cher’s house already! I mean, if ou’re going to rejoin the human race, why not do it with Cher?”
The excitement for the musical is building and we can’t wait!
