Christopher Biggins says same-sex marriage is ‘step too far’ for him

Christopher Biggins has reiterated his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying that to call his partner his husband would be a “step too far” for him.
The British actor and presenter – who has been in a civil partnership with his partner of 21 years, Neil, since 2006 – notably opposed equal marriage back in 2012, citing his religious beliefs and arguing that marriage was “for heterosexual couples”.
In a new profile for The Sunday Times, the 66 year-old revealed he had not changed his mind about same-sex marriage since its introduction, saying: “It’s fine for others, but calling Neil my husband is a step too far.”
Of starting a family, he added: “I couldn’t afford children: I’d need an enormous house with wings and nannies who’d bring them to me every evening for half an hour. I’d rather have a 54in TV.”
The former I’m a Celeb winner also encouraged others in the public eye to come out, saying: “It amazes me there are still so many sportsmen, actors, singers, politicians who won’t come out and admit what they are”.
“People are scared they’ll upset their fans, but the fans don’t care.
“I was at Cliff Richard’s concert at the Royal Albert Hall the other night — he gives so much pleasure. It may be to women of a certain age but that doesn’t matter. He’s a megastar.”
