Clare Balding marries partner Alice Arnold
By Ben Kelly
Clare Balding has married her partner of 14 years, fellow broadcaster Alice Arnold. The two women had a civil partnership in 2006, but have now converted their union to marriage.
In an interview with Jonathan Ross, to be screened tonight, Balding described a low key affair. “They just backdate it to when you did your civil partnership, so officially now we have been married since 2006” she explained. “We didn’t have a big party at all actually, nobody came apart from us.”
She also joked, “I’m quite keen on the whole idea of a party obviously, I don’t know the etiquette though, are you allowed to ask for presents again? It’s all about the party and the presents.”
Balding launched a new series of The Clare Balding Show on BBC2 this week, with guests from the sport and entertainment world, including Tom Daley.
In an interview in this month’s Attitude, the Prime Minister David Cameron named Balding as his LGBT hero, saying, “I’m a big fan. I love her enthusiasm; her zest for life.” He went on to say, “it doesn’t matter what sport she’s talking about, she can make it interesting. She’s a wonderful human being.”
The Jonathan Ross Show is on ITV tonight at 9.45pm.
