Former Coronation Street actress Amanda Barrie has revealed she and her girlfriend of ten years are to get married.
Barrie, 78, and writer Hilary Bonner, 66, will wed later this year in a ceremony at London’s Theatre Royal.
The actress came out as bisexual in her autobiography in 2002, and is best known for playing Alma Baldwin on Coronation Street between 1981 and 2001. In more recent years she has been seen on Holby City, Bad Girls and Hell’s Kitchen, and has made several appearances in Christmas pantomimes.
“As our combined ages will be 144 at the time of this cosmic event, we felt we might be cutting it a bit fine if we left it much longer,” she told The Sun.
She then joked: “In any case, our dog was feeling insecure.”
Barrie was previously married to Robin Hunter, an actor, from 1967 until he died in 2004.
