Hayley Cropper’s final scenes on Coronation Street will air tonight (January 20).

Fans of the soap should brace themselves for two emotional instalments of Corrie tonight, as Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) finally puts an end to her battle with pancreatic cancer.

On Friday (January 17), viewers saw Hayley tell husband Roy that the time had come to end her life before her illness brought on further confusion.

Hayley – who became the soap’s first transgender character in January 1998 – has previously explained that she wants to die as Hayley, rather than dying believing that she is still Harold (her male identity).

Julie Hesmondhalgh – who filmed her final scenes for the ITV soap last year – will take to the stage at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre from January 23, where she is starring in Blindsided – a new production from playwright Simon Stephen.

G-A-Y at Heaven are hosting a Hayley Cropper Memorial Service this Saturday (January 25). Julie Hesmondhalgh will be making a special appearance and there will be music from The Overtones. We’ll see you there…
