Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly hits back in style after opponent calls him a ‘f*ggot’ mid-match

Cristiano Ronaldo might have helped Real Madrid romp to victory against arch-rivals Atletico Madrid during Saurday’s derby match, but the football superstar has hit the headlines for rather different reasons following a mid-match scuffle with Spanish opponent Jorge Resurrección Merodio, more commonly known as ‘Koke’.
Both players were handed a yellow card after pressing heads during a tense exchange during the match’s 63rd minute, at which point Real Madrid were 1-nil up on their rivals.
Since the match – which Real Madrid eventually won 3-0 thanks to a hat trick from Ronaldo – Spanish radio station Cope claims to have overhead the details of the heated incident, which allegedly saw Ronaldo hit back in style after Koke threw a homophobic slur his way.
After Koke called him a “f*ggot”, the 31-year-old is said to have allegedly retorted: “Yes, a f*ggot. But a very rich one, sh*thead.”
The incident is certainly not the first time Ronaldo – who recently showed us exactly what he gets up to in the locker room when he stripped off for the Portuguese national football team’s Mannequin Challenge – has been subject to homophobic abuse on the pitch.
Back in April, a Spanish LGBT rights group made a formal complaint to Spain’s State Commission against Violence in Sport after Ronaldo was subjected to repeated homophobic slurs from the crowd during a match.
Meanwhile, French sports presenter courted controversy last year after implying that Ronaldo’s relationship with boxer Badr Hari was more than just friendship, while a German newspaper was criticised earlier this summer for appearing to question the footballing hero’s sexuality after he shared photos of men relaxing aboard his luxury yacht.
