David Cameron: I have absolutely no regrets about introducing marriage equality to England and Wales

David Cameron says introducing marriage equality to England and Wales is one of the things he is ‘proudest’ of.
The former UK Prime Minister held the position from 2010 to 2016 – before resigning following the results of the EU referendum – and in 2014, the government legalised same-sex marriages.
And now, in an extract from his upcoming book, ‘For the Record’, which was published in The Times, Cameron says he lost party members after introducing marriage equality.
He said: “Equal marriage was one of the most contentious, hard-fought and divisive issues during my times as prime minister.
“We would lose party members; one even came to my surgery and tore up their membership card in front of me.
“It was an issue that I would worry and even wobble over. But I have absolutely no regrets, and it is one of the things of which I’m proudest.”
