David Cameron: ‘There’s an enormous parliamentary majority for equal marriage’
Yesterday (July 8), we reported that Andrea Leadsom “wasn’t happy” about equal marriage.
During an appearance on ITV News, Leadsom revealed that she didn’t like the same-sex marriage law because of the “hurt” it caused to Christians.
She also said that she would have preferred marriage to have “remained as a Christian service” for men and women who “wanted to commit in the eyes of God.”
According to the Independent, David Cameron stated that equal marriage is safe during a speech at the NATO Summit in Warsaw.
“On equal marriage, I’m extremely proud of it and so many people have taken advantage of it. I think there’s now an enormous parliamentary majority for equal marriage so I’m confident that it will continue to be the case.”
“It’s also very popular all over the world. Britain was one of the first countries with centre-right leaning government to take that step and many others are following suit and I’m very proud of that.”
Andrea Leadsom is battling with Theresa May for the position of Prime Minister after David Cameron resigned in the wake of the EU referendum vote.
