Demi Lovato and Caitlyn Jenner honoured at GLAAD Awards

Last night (Saturday) was the 27th GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles.

The awards honour those who further GLAAD’s mission of ensuring that stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are heard through the media.

Demi Lovato was a received GLAAD’s Vanguard Award from Nick Jonas during the ceremony.

 

Lovato, chosen for her advocacy for acceptance of the LGBT community, spoke about her late grandfather who came out as gay in the 1960’s.

Caitlyn Jenner received an award for Outstanding Reality Program for her reality TV series, “I Am Cait”.  Jenner is sharing the Award with transgender YouTuber Jazz Jennings who has a TLC show entitled, “I Am Jazz”.

Our honourees include the film, “Carol”, Netflix’s “Sense8” which was created by transgender, Lilly Wachowski who also made her first public appearance at the ceremony. Queen Latifah accepted an award for “Bessie” and Troye Sivan accepted an award for Outstanding Music Artist.

Lovato reportedly performed during the ceremony.

“I Am Cait” is currently airing its second season on the E! Network.
