Dentist struck off for lying about positive HIV status

A dentist in Scotland has been struck off after lying about his positive HIV status.
Harry Robertson, who worked at the Kelburne Dental Surgery in Paisley, has been removed from the dental register for his “dishonest conduct”.
According to STV News, over 10,000 patients have been informed of the “very slight” risk that they may have contracted the virus, and have been offered blood tests.
A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said that 500 patients still haven’t been tested, but added that “the vast majority” of patients were successfully contacted by post.
She explained: “There were people we could not trace because they had moved from the area and we conducted a public awareness campaign in the hope these people would present for testing.
“Ultimately, however, it was down to a personal decision by individuals on whether to respond to our appeal for testing. Not a single person was found to have caught HIV as a result of dental treatment.”
