The Disney Channel has featured its first ever gay characters in its 31-year history.
The network introduced a lesbian couple in an episode of sitcom Good Luck Charlie on Sunday night (January 26).
In the episode, series regulars Amy and Bob Duncan set up a playdate for their daughter Charlie and one of her new friends, and were confused over the name of the child’s mother. Amy thought it was Susan, while Bob said it was Cheryl.
However, it turned out that both were correct when mothers Amy and Cheryl turned up at the house.
Bob said to his wife: “Oh, Taylor has two moms.”
“Nothing gets past you, Bob,” Amy replied.
The characters appeared as one-time guest stars and are unlikely to feature in the sitcom again.
