Dolce and Gabbana to appeal tax evasion conviction
By Sam Rigby
Fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will appeal the decision to uphold their suspended sentences on tax evasion charges.
The pair were each given reduced sentences of 18 months suspended jail time, reduced from 20 months, on Wednesday (April 30).
Last June, Dolce and Gabbana were given suspended sentences on charges of using Luxembourg holding company Gado to avoid paying taxes on royalties amounting to around €1bn (£820m), The Guardian reports.
A lawyer for Dolce and Gabbana confirmed that they will appeal the latest decision, which they described as “inexplicable”.
“I am speechless. We are all shocked. The judgment is inexplicable and we will appeal,” Massimo Dinoia said.
Dolce and Gabbana have always denied any wrongdoing, after an investigation was launched back in 2008.
