Dolce & Gabbana hit back at Elton John: ‘He’s ignorant’

Dolce and Gabbana have branded Elton John “ignorant” for urging the LGBT community to boycott their brand.
In an interview with Italian news magazine Panorama, the designers, who split after a long relationship in 2005, strongly spoke out against same-sex parents, saying that “the only family is the traditional one” and “things should not be changed”.
A number of celebrities including Ricky Martin and Victoria Beckham criticised the designers’ comments, with John calling on the LGBT community to boycott the brand. Find out more here.
In an interview with an Italian newspaper in the wake of the controversy surrounding their comments, the designers have remained firm about their distaste for John’s boycott campaign, with Gabbana claiming that he didn’t expect it from someone whom he once “considered” intelligent.
“I didn’t expect this, coming from someone whom I considered — and I stress ‘considered’ — an intelligent person like Elton John,” said Gabbana. “I mean, you preach understanding, tolerance, and then you attack others?”
“Only because someone has a different opinion? Is this a democratic or enlightened way of thinking? This is ignorance, because he ignores the fact that others might have a different opinion and that theirs is as worthy of respect as this,” he added.
