Donald Trump’s niece Mary calls uncle a ‘traitor’

Donald Trump‘s niece Mary L. Trump has slammed her uncle on Twitter, calling him a “traitor.”
Her words follow violent scenes in Washington DC this week, after Trump supporters rioted and descended on the Capitol Building. Clashes with police left five dead.
Mary, who is a lesbian, is the author of Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, written in response to Trump’s presidency.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday night, Mary said: “Make no mistake, the so-called leader of our country, who swore to protect and defend the Constitution, directed a horde of white supremacist domestic terrorists to stage a coup to overturn a legitimately decided election. He isn’t just encouraging them, he IS them. #traitor.”
She later added: “Pouring gasoline on the fire under the guise of pretending to put it out. None of his statements should be aired.”

Yesterday, Mary also tweeted: “Democracy didn’t prevail yesterday, it was knee-capped after 4 long years of being pushed to the breaking point. It will survive only if Donald and his fellow seditionists in Congress are removed from office. Now. Otherwise they’ll try it again—and next time they’ll succeed.”

After a Twitter suspension, Trump today condemned the “heinous attack” on the US capital – however, he had previously refused to condemn rioters, telling them in another video message: “we love you, you’re all very special.”

The riot followed a speech by Trump in which he encouraged supporters to overturn his defeat by Joe Biden in last November’s presidential election.
After the interruption, US Congress certified Democrat Biden’s victory; he will now be sworn in on 20 January.
