Drag Race star Katya shares emotional statement and confirms she’s quitting drag till 2019
The news comes after Katya announced a hiatus from drag this week
Drag queen Katya has shared an emotional message to fans after postponing her tour dates.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant announced a hiatus from drag earlier this week for her mental health.
Shortly after, the New Alex Theatre revealed that her UK tour, An Evening With Katya Samolodchikova: Help Me, I’m Dying, has been postponed until next year.
Katya, real name Brian McCook, has since shared an emotional statement about the postponed tour and her mental health on Twitter.
The statement read: “Hi, my name is not Katya. I am Brian, a recovering drug addict and workaholic.”
“I need to take some personal time for my mental health to heal and recover. All of my tours and shows will be postponed until 2019.
“Local venues will provide an update over the next several weeks. I love you all and love is more powerful than money. And because this is ‘online’ I have to tell a joke so you know I’m serious: I still hate you Taylor Swift.”

She ended the statement with: “Peace be with you.”
The star announced a hiatus from drag earlier this week in an Instagram live video on Monday (January 15) in which she opened up about her mental health and drug struggles.
She said: “There is no emergency. But I needed to take a little break, it was time to take a vacation, because my health, the drugs, my brain, that wasn’t good.”
