Driver who threatened to quit over rainbow Pride bus has been fired
The Calgary bus driver who made a huge song-and-dance over the city’s rainbow-coloured Pride vehicles and said he’d quit if he was made to drive one has now been sacked.
Altogether now: BYE, FELICIA!
Speaking to local reporters, Jesse Rau said he’d been let go for speaking out to the media and for views made clear on social media.
Via CityNews: “I expected that my job was totally on the line… so the fact that they fired me, it’s hurtful, but like I said from the very beginning, I knew that was going to be on the table.”
The termination letter he shares points out that he was never even asked to drive a Pride bus in the first place, and was specifically told he wouldn’t be.
It continues: “To be clear, you are entitled to your religious beliefs and to express them freely. However, you went beyond that and made false and misleading comments during various media interviews which resulted in undue controversy and put the reputation of the City at risk.”
More worryingly, he has ties on Facebook with the Street Church – a group that has condemned homosexuals as minions of Satan. His former employers slammed the “abhorrent” content, and Rau said in response: “I had two posts that were anti-fascism posts. It’s something I’m very concerned about.”
Bye!
