Blue’s Duncan James has spoken about his fears over coming out.

The singer told guests at an InterLaw Diversity Forum event at The Ivy on Sunday (February 16) that he “feared the prospect of being rejected” by family, friends and fans.

He said: “Being gay myself, I feared the prospect of being rejected by my own family, friends and fan-base when I came out.

“Coming out is one of the most difficult things for a person to have to do and unfortunately not everyone in the LGBT community who has come out will have been as lucky as I was.”

He also revealed how his mum was shocked to discover he had got a girl pregnant, just two months after he told her he was gay.

Speaking about her reaction to his sexuality, Duncan said: “She just put her arms around me, and gave me a hug and told me that she loved me, and the next day she said does that mean I’m not going to have any grandchildren.

“Two months later I told her ‘mum I’ve got something to tell you, I got a girl pregnant’ and she was like ‘WHAT?! I thought you were gay!’”

Duncan was joined at Sunday’s event by the likes of Gok Wan and Katie Price, who was vocal in her support of the LGBT community.
