Tom's husband and mother, Dustin Lance Black and Debbie Daley, were watching in Canada - and we're sure their screams were heard in Tokyo!

We imagine there were cheers up and down the country when divers Tom Daley and Matty Lee won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday (26 July).
But none (we’re sure) can compare with those of Tom’s husband Dustin Lance Black and mother, Debbie, who positively raised the roof when they realised Tom had got the gold.
Tom, 27, and Matty, 23, won in the men’s 10m synchronised diving by less than two points with 471.91 points compared to China’s Cao Yuan and Chen Aisen, who finished with 470.58.
“I did say they would hear us from Canada”
Posting on his Instagram story, (which you can still watch during a 24-hour window here) Dustin Lance Black and Debbie, who were both watching from home Canada, can be seen watching the TV in silence before erupting into joyful screams when it was clear that Tom had won.

Dustin appropriately added the caption: “I did say they would hear us from Canada”. We’re sure they did!

Taking to Twitter later, the Oscar-winning screenwriter added: “No words! So so many tears! @TomDaley1994 you’re an OLYMPIC CHAMPION! Congratulations Tom and @MattyLee!”
The victory marks Tom Daley’s first Olympic gold medal in four appearances at an Olympic Games, while Matty Lee has managed the feat on his Olympic debut.
Speaking to the Attitude July issue earlier this year, Tom reflected on his training regimen ahead of the Tokyo games: “My training schedule is pretty intense at the moment […] we’re training six days a week up to about six hours a day, involving dry land stuff like gymnastics, trampolining, yoga, cardio, weightlifting…
“Pretty much, you name it, we do it, because we have to train pretty much every single muscle in our body to withstand 35mph impact into the water from 10m.
“So, it’s pretty intense – but hopefully it’ll be worth it!”
We think it’s been worth it! Congrats again!
