Emma Watson may have delivered some subtle shade last night towards Harry Potter author JK Rowling at the BAFTAs on Sunday night (13 March).
The actress who’s perhaps best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the wizarding series, was onstage to present an award for Outstanding British Film.
Introducing Watson, BAFTA host Rebel Wilson said Watson was “proud to call herself a feminist, but we all know she’s a witch.”

Taking to the stage Watson said: “I’m here for all of the witches,” with rather a little bit too much emphasis on the ‘all’ for it to be overlooked.
She also pointed out that the film industry was “blessed” with diverse voices exploring “different ways of being”, which included sexuality and identity.
Watson, 31, sent the internet into a spin as her comment was taken as a dig at Rowling, who has stirred controversy multiple times over the last few years for her views on sex and gender.
One person thought as much saying Emma was here for trans rights, while another person commented: “Emma Watson’s “I’m here for *all* of the witches, by the way” was a giant dig at JK and I love her for it.”

Watson, like many of her fellow Harry Potter stars, has distanced herself from the author’s comments.
In 2020, she wrote on Twitter: “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.”
The star also said: “I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”
Meanwhile, Rebel Wilson made a dig at Rowling, referencing her weight loss ‘transformation’ and saying “I hope JK Rowling still approves.’”
