Famous London drag club Madame Jojo’s closes down

Famous London drag club Madame Jojo’s has closed down after losing its license.
The closure follows a “serious incident” outside the Soho venue in October, which saw a violent altercation between bouncers and a customer.
On October 24, the venue’s security team violently assaulted the customer following a verbal dispute. The customer later returned and began throwing glass bottles, which led to the bouncers attacking him with baseball bats.
According to The Guardian, the police called for the club’s license to be suspended following an investigation. Madame Jojo’s hired new management and security, but the council decided to permanently revoke the license anyway.
Marcus Harris, who co-ran the club’s White Heat night, said: “In my opinion, it seems that the council just used the incident as a good excuse to take away the license. It’s one of the few places left round there which has a 3am license, seven nights a week.
“If you look at the way the area is changing, they clearly don’t want a late night drinking presence anywhere in Soho anymore. They want to make Soho about families – shopping, going out to eat, going to the theatre. The bars shut at 11 and you’re home by midnight.”
