It’s common knowledge that not everyone finds love on dating and hook-up apps and many LGBT people feel isolated and the dating world is tough for everyone.
Over the last year there have been alarming levels of poor mental health among LGBT people and according to new research from Stonewall, Britain’s leading charity for LGBT equality, LGBT people suffer more than the general population.
Based on a YouGov poll of more than 5,000 LGBT people, the results show that more than half of LGBT people (52 per cent) have experience depression in the last year and three in five (61 per cent) had anxiety.
Two thirds of LGBT people who have been the victim of a hate crime (69 per cent) have experienced depression while three in four (76 per cent) have had episodes of anxiety.
Now, in order to combat loneliness and isolation in the LGBT community, Gaydar’s former managing director Rob Curtis has founded a new programme aimed at allowing LGBT people to meet without the pressure of sex and dating.

Curtis said: “We speak to young queer people all the time who tell us that they’d love the opportunity to connect with other people in a safe environment.
“Our research shows that almost three-quarters of queer people under 26 want to make new queer friends but aren’t having luck on hook-up and dating apps.
“That’s why we are creating Squad Social – to help queer people meet one another without the added pressure of sex and dating.”
Squad Social’s mission is to ‘end loneliness in the LGBTQ+ community by helping people connect around common interests and events’.
The company is currently developing two apps for Android and iOS which it says will be released in Q1 2019. You can learn more here.
