Figure skater Johnny Weir splits from husband

US figure skater Johnny Weir has confirmed that he has split from his husband Victor Weir-Voronov.

The couple have ended their marriage of just over two years after tying the knot in New York on New Year’s Eve in 2011.

Weir confirmed the news on Twitter, posting: “It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together. My heart hurts, and I wish him well.”

“No matter what, I am a cheerleader of love and partnership and creation. I am sad yet I am thankful that I was loved and that I could love,” he added.

Their split comes just weeks after reportedly appeared on court after his husband alleged that he bit him during a violent dispute.

Weir recently worked as an NBC commentator at the Sochi Winter Olympics.
