By Fabio Crispim

The 2018 Paris Gay Games will see the first ever Chinese delegation in attendance, according to Sixth Tone.

The Gay Games is the largest LGBT sporting event int he world and organisers shared the news on their Facebook page, stating that they were hoping to see the first group of them attending the games.

A Chinese man previously participated in past games and won a silver medal in swimming but many people have been hoping and urging China to participate in future games.

One man, Qiu Hua, has been trying to convince people from China to take part despite 5% of people in China say they’re ‘out’ at school or work.

Speaking to Sixth Tone Qui said, “People in China don’t know about the games, and this is the first time there has been a direct link between the games and China.”

Qui hopes to get around 100 people to attend the 2018 games while Hong Kong has launched a bid to host the 2022 Gay Games which would bring the sporting event to Asia for the time ever.

The Gay Games was founded in 1982 by Tom Wadell, a former Olympian and physician and since it’s debut, the games have developed a reputation for celebrating inclusivity and equality.
