Former nuns get married, call on Catholic Church to embrace same-sex love

Two nuns have renounced their habits in order to enter a civil partnership in Italy, according to Gay Star News.
Federica and Isabel met during a mission to a rehabilitation center for drug addicts, when the fell in love. Since, they have spoken out against the Catholic Church’s strict views on homosexuality.
“God wants people happy, to live the love in the light of the sun,” Isabel said to Italian paper, La Stampa, while Federica said, “We call upon our church to welcome all people who love each other.”
The couple’s ceremony on took place yesterday (September 28). According to reports, it had been planned to take place today (September 29), but they moved the date last minute to avoid photographers.
The officiator of the ceremony, Luca Salvai, said: “We have guaranteed the right to privacy for this couple, who asked for discretion.”
Italy became one of the last few major western European countries to legalise civil partnerships earlier this year, but faced huge backlash from religious conservatives in the country. In July, a terminally ill woman because among the first to enter into a civil partnership.
