Cath Hall, the founder of the Albert Kennedy Trust in Manchester, has been recognised with an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, for services to homeless young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.
Mrs Hall founded the charity in 1989, as a foster carer who recognised that she could not meet the full range of needs of LGBT young people in her care. She was one of 1,163 people honoured in today’s list, which marks the official birthday of the Queen.
There was also an OBE for Martyn Loukes, who is the Chair of the LGBT Staff Network at Transport for London. He was recognised for services to diversity in the workplace.
The list also awards a host of celebrities, including a Knighthood for singer Van Morrison, and for Kevin Spacey, who is marking the end of his tenure as Artistic Director at the Old Vic Theatre. Spacey said he felt like “an adopted son” to Britain.
There was also a CBE for Benedict Cumberbatch, and an OBE for Eddie Redmayne and Michael Ball. Edward Watson, principal dancer with the Royal Ballet was awarded an MBE.
