A gay couple were among the six people who died when a pedestrian bridge collapsed in Miami last week.
Osvaldo ‘Ozzy’ González, 57, and partner Alberto Arias, 54, were in the process of moving Arias’ elderly mother into their home on March 15 when the concrete bridge by Florida International University collapsed onto the highway.
As news of the collapsed bridge spread, Arias’ mother became worried and began calling her son’s phone frantically but received no answer.
According to the Miami Herald, The two men’s deaths were confirmed last Saturday (March 17) when the couple’s white Chevy truck was pulled out from the debris.
Originally from Cuba, the pair were together for 21 years and ran party rental business Classic Design Party Rental together.
Arias’ nephew, Luis Arias, called the men “soulmates” and described them as “outstanding beings, full of life, full of joy, always smiling, and always putting others before them.”
He said: “They were together in their ups they were together in their downs, they were together in their travels and enjoying life and they will be together when they are laid to rest.”
The couple were buried side by side on Wednesday (March 21).
Meanwhile, their families are filing a lawsuit against the companies involved in the bridge collapse.
