Gay couple told to stop kissing by Leicester McDonald’s employee

A McDonald’s security guard has been suspended after he told two gay men to stop kissing.
Matthew Dummigan told The Leicester Mercury that he was giving his male friend a “peck” on the cheek in a Leicester branch of the fast-food chain when a security guard walked over and told them both to stop kissing.
Dummigan alleges that when he asked if a straight couple doing the same thing would have been more “acceptable,” the security guard told him: “Yes”.
“It was horrific. He said it was making people feel uneasy. It was really upsetting for me,” said Dummigan. “I tried to confront him about it – I told him his attitude wasn’t right. I was really angry and upset.”
He continued: “Gay people can get married and divorced, yet they get told off for showing a bit of affection – his attitude was so outdated.”
The man went on to reveal that one of his friends was “chucked out” of the branch after he stood up to the security guard:
“One of my friends stuck up for us and he got chucked out,” he added. “I’ve been out as gay for seven years and I have never witnessed anything like this in my life. I read about things like this happening in the papers but I never thought it would happen to me.”
Following the incident, a McDonald’s spokesperson apologised to Dummigan in a statement and revealed that the employee in question has been suspended while an investigation into the matter takes place.
“We are very sorry for Mr Dummigan’s experience when visiting our restaurant. We have taken this complaint very seriously and are conducting a thorough internal investigation and while this is happening have suspended the security guard in question. Our customer care team is in touch with Mr Dummigan.”
