A father-of-two has issued a powerful warning about vigilance in the age of Covid-19, after his kids caught the virus from an unvaccinated relative.

Philadelphia-based Adam Joseph shared his family’s story in a Facebook video this week, explaining he and husband Karl have been vaccinated.

The meteorologist for ABC station WPVI is a dad to a six-year-old son Jacob and five-year-old daughter, Hannah.

“We were doing so well”

“We kind of feel like we failed as parents, to a degree, after protecting our children for nearly a year-and-a-half from this, and were doing so well,” explains Adam in the video.

Covid-19 vaccines are not currently available for children under the age of 12 in the US. In the UK, the limit is currently 18, extending to 16 and 17 for some with underlying health conditions.

“We did everything that was asked of us,” explained Adam. “I was at home much of the time, we wore masks everywhere we went, Karl is still working from home since March of 2020. Our kids were in school wearing masks the entire time with no problems.”

Adam then said: “We invited a family member to come to the house who was not vaccinated, they tested negative a few days before coming here. Arrived, everything was great, and then the day after they got sick and tested positive for Covid.”

Adam’s kids and their nanny then tested positive a few days later; the visiting family member has since been hospitalised.

“Please, if you are not vaccinated, do not go around children who are under 12,” Adam continued. “They’re so vulnerable right now.”

“We need to protect our children and make sure they stay healthy,” he added.

Adam’s message shortly preceded ‘Freedom Day‘ (19 July 2021) in the UK, which saw the relaxing of most Covid-19 restrictions.
