Gay man found guilty of tricking men into having sex by pretending to be a woman
The 34-year-old posed as a woman called 'Ana' in order to trick men into having sex with him.
A gay man who tricked straight men into having sex with him by posing as a woman has been found guilty of several sex crimes.
Duarte Xavier has been convicted of six counts of causing a male aged 13 or over to engage in penetrative sexual activity. The 34-year-old posed as a woman named ‘Ana’ on Craigslist and Tinder before inviting men back to his home for sex where he’d insist they wear blindfolds.
Xavier’s first victim visited the man’s house in February 2016 but only realised something was wrong when he pulled off his eye mask and saw Xavier. The 45-year-old then left the house in a hurry before receiving an apologetic text from Xavier who blamed what happened on his “mental health problem”.
In October of the same year, a 29-year-old man arranged to meet Xavier as ‘Ana’. He later realised something was wrong, saw Xavier and fled. Xavier allegedly reached out to the man, claiming the incident was a “big misunderstanding”. The victim then alerted the police and Xavier was arrested on October 16, 2017, on suspicion of causing sexual activity with another person without consent. He was later released.
Xavier met with a third man in April 2018 but asked him to keep their exchange a secret because ‘Ana’ “was married”. According to the victim, a pillowcase was thrown over his head to obscure his vision. The victim called the police and Xavier was arrested again.
A fourth victim was later discovered when investigators searched several of Xavier’s mobile phones. They have claimed there could be more victims, Gay Star News reports.
In a statement, Detective Constable Lucy Marsh said: “All of the victims had no reason to believe that they were not engaging with a woman and all have stated unequivocally that they would never have given their consent to sexual relations with another man.
“Xavier has demonstrated extreme manipulation and cunning in order to satisfy his own sexual gratification, setting bizarre conditions that the victims adhered to in the belief that they were part of the experience. He is a sexual predator and I hope the victims, all of whom were traumatised by their experiences, will now feel that they have achieved some justice.”
Marsh then thanked the men who testified against Xavier and noted how the victims faced “difficult and challenging questions throughout the judicial process.”
Xavier will be sentenced on November 9.
