Gay man ‘raped and covered in human faeces’ in violent homophobic attack
The man was working at a rehabilitation centre when he was attacked for holding hands with another man
A South African man has claimed he was raped, whipped and covered in human faeces in a homophobic attack.
Mogamat Yushree Jacobs was at the Akhbar Rehabilitation Centre in Cape Town when the incident occurred on January 30, and has claimed managers at the centre targeted him for being gay.
Jacobs attended the centre for eight months as a recovering heroin addict. Following his successful rehabilitation, Jacobs began working as an administrative assistant and counsellor there, where he met his close friend.
Speaking to Iol, Jacobs revealed the trouble started after a manager walked in on Jacobs and his friend holding hands during a one-to-one session.
He said: “We were told to end the friendship and people were assigned to watch me and this person.”
Jacobs, who shared his room with 16 others, claimed the attacks began soon after.
He said: “They placed me in a room where the new people are to punish me, and then they beat me with a sjambok (A heavy whip) which left me blue and black and I could not walk for a few days.”
The 36-year-old alleged the whipping was followed by a “night of torture” where two other patients were allegedly ordered to sexually assault him and throw human faeces over him.
“They woke me up at midnight and said I must just wear my underwear,” Jacobs explained. “They took water filled with human waste and threw it onto me and ordered that I get into the pool with the other clients who were there.
“The one who we called ‘the father of the house’ placed my head under the water and it felt like I was going to pass out. Then they ordered me to get out and told the one client to stand behind me and to grind me with his penis. The other, they said, must shove his penis in my mouth. These men were forced to do it by the ‘father’.”
Following the attack, Jacobs, still covered in faeces, was allegedly ordered to stand from 2am to 10am without moving.
He explained: “They then had clients shout at and insult me by saying things like I did not come to the rehab for drugs, but to do boys. The management knew I was gay when I arrived, and had no problem with it.”
After managing to escape from the centre on Monday (February 19), Jacobs reported the incident to the police who have confirmed that they have opened a rape investigation.
