Gay student comes out with awesome yearbook quote

By Nick Bond

18-year-old New Jersey high school senior Maxwell Barrett wanted to graduate “with a bang” – and with his yearbook picture and quote making headlines across the world, he certainly achieved that goal.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, Barrett, who was “out” to most people around him at school (although not, officially, to his parents), said that he “wanted to go out in a way people would remember me by!” Take a look:

Barrett said that his classmates and teachers loved the quote, but that a yearbook supervisor had at one stage told him they wouldn’t be running it because of its “shock value” – thankfully, sanity prevailed.

And his parents?

“It was just more of a confirmation to [my parents] than a coming-out story,” he said. “They said it was the best one in the yearbook and that they were proud of me.”
