Gay twins provide new evidence that sexuality is genetic

A new study into gay twins has offered fresh evidence that sexuality is determined by genetics.

409 pairs of brothers and twins took part in the study, which has identified two regions of the human genome that appear to have a strong link to male homosexuality, the New Scientist reports.

Regions of the ‘X’ chromosome and chromosome 8 had been identified in the past as having a link to homosexuality, but this large-scale study has offered more definitive findings.

Alan Sanders, research leader on the NorthShore Research Institute project, said: “It erodes the notion that sexual orientation is a choice.”

Back in September, a video of a pair of gay twins coming out to their parents went viral after they posted the clip online – watch it here.
